2021 Aspiring Engineer Scholarship

The East Toronto Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is pleased to offer a scholarship of $1500 to a deserving first-year student enrolled in a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) accredited engineering program within Ontario.

Eligible candidates are required to:

  • Currently residing or attended a high school within the PEO East Toronto Chapter (ETC), a region bounded by Lake Ontario, Yonge Street, Highway 401 and Victoria Park Avenue;
  • Be enrolled and provide proof of enrollment at an accredited engineering program within Ontario for September 2021;
  • Enroll in PEO Student Member Program for free at http://www.engineeringstudents.peo.on.ca/
  • Submit a professional resume
  • Submit a 500 word essay “Why do you want to be an engineer and what has inspired you to pursue engineering?”

Eligible applicants must submit their application to EducationOutreach.ETC.PEO@gmail.com by November  30 th, 2021.

The winners will be notified in December of 2021. The scholarships will be rewarded in January 2022.

The Role of Engineers in the Climate Change Issue

Wednesday, September 22, 2021 | 7:00-8:30 PM EST

David Lapp, P.Eng. from Ontario, Dr Malcoln Shield and Harshan Radhakrishnan from Engineers Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) and Curt Hull from Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGMB) will provide an overview of their successes in dealing with the climate change issue. The seminar will help to inform engineers in Ontario about the possible features of an Ontario Engineers Climate Action Plan that they might want to consider putting on their radar.

PEO East Toronto Chapter New License Certificate Ceremony

Dear PEO East Toronto Chapter member, 

On behalf of Professional Engineers of Ontario – East Toronto Chapter, I want 

to invite you to celebrate the achievement of the new Licensed Professional Engineers. All chapter members are invited to join us for the celebration, and the event is virtual due to the pandemic. You are cordially invited to attend the virtual PEO East Toronto Chapter Ceremony on the evening of Tuesday, May 12, 2021. 

This event will give us an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the engineering profession with our colleagues. There will be two guests joining the event: 

MPP Chris Glover 

Chris Glover was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 2018 as the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) representing the riding of Spadina-Fort York. He is the Official Opposition Critic for Technology Development and Innovation.
Prior to his election to the legislature, Chris was a Toronto District School Board Trustee, a member of the Toronto Board of Health and an Adjunct Professor at York University.
Initiatives he’s led include:
-Working with residents, business owners, housing advocates and people experiencing homelessness to advocate for solutions to the homelessness crisis in Toronto
-Holding town halls to discuss cuts to education, explore affordable housing and consider solutions for the climate crisis
-Creating a Federation of Residents Associations for South Toronto (FoSTRA) in order to have one loud voice when advocating for issues
-Co-founded a community care and food program to help support those most vulnerable in the community.

 

Andrew L.Maxwell  

Dr Maxwell  MBA P.Eng is the Bergeron Chair in Technology Entrepreneurship at the Lassonde School of Engineering. He works in the fields of design thinking, technology entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. In his role at Lassonde he is a core developer of the design spine at the Lassonde school of engineering, founder of the BESTlab an environment where students explore entrepreneurial ideas and academic lead on the BEST certificate which allows engineering students to develop entrepreneurial mindsets through core courses and activities at Lassonde and participation in courses at Schulich School of Business and Osgoode Hall Law School. 

During the event, Andrew L.Maxwell will be leading a session on problem solving for the engineers.

Fire Protection Engineering Issues Symposium

Local PEO chapters are excited to be hosting our first joint event with the Society of Fire Protection Engineers-Southern Ontario Chapter (SFPE-SOC), on May 11, 2021

The details of the event are included below. We will have 7 speakers discussing six current topics of  interest for the fire protection engineering industry.  

The cost will only be $10 for the full-day event and all proceeds will be donated to our local charities as with all our events this year.

The attendance link invite will be emailed on May 7, 5pm. A follow-up email will be sent on May 11, 7am, for those who register after the first email has been sent.
