Annual General Meeting

 

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the East Toronto Chapter took place at the Arts & Letters Club, 14 Elm St., Toronto. The event was extremely well attended, concluding with an informative seminar on the Gardiner Expressway rehabilitation, presented by Frank Clarizio, P. Eng..

Some highlights from 2014, presented by the Chair, are as follows:

  • There were 3 new member certificate ceremonies (minimum of 2 is required by PEO).
  • There were 6 board meetings (minimum of 4 is required by PEO).
  • There were 13 seminars held (initially had planned for 10).
  • Two social events were held, including a first time summer BBQ, and a Wine & Cheese event.

2014 Annual General Meeting and Seminar

Date: January 28, 2015
Location: The Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. 14 Elm Street, Toronto, ON M5G 1G7.
Registration: Please register by January 15. There is no fee to participate but registration is required to enable us to arrange for catering services.

Note: Candidates to PEO Council who may be in attendance are welcome to mingle and distribute their promotional material during the 6:30 to 7:00 period. They may also leave their promotional material on the side tables. However, there will be no candidacy speeches due to limited time to cover the AGM Agenda.

  11. Seminar/Presentation: Strategic Plan for the Rehabilitation of the F.G. Gardiner Expressway by Frank Clarizio, P.Eng., Director Design and Construction (Transportation Infrastructure), City of Toronto.

As in previous years, a list of names nominated by the current board will be submitted to the members. Candidates may be submitted in advance to the attention of Dan Mireanu, P.Eng., Secretary (acting) at dan.mireanu@gmail.com or at the AGM up to the time of the taking of the vote. All East Toronto Chapter Members who either has a P.Eng. or EIT designation are voting members on all matters at the AGM (i.e. approval of annual reports and election of chapter Board of Directors). The full list of names will be voted as a block without regard to individual officer or subcommittee chair positions which will be decided by the newly elected board at its first meeting shortly after the AGM (within 30 days).

The venue is readily accessible by TTC. From Dundas Station on the Yonge Subway Line 1, walk two short blocks north on Yonge St. Turn left on Elm St. and walk west a few metres towards the venue on the north side of the street. Pay parking is available just west of the venue on the same side of the street. A flat rate of $10 is charged after 6:00 pm payable up front by self service at the pay station.

Presentation: Strategic Plan for the Rehabilitation of the F.G. Gardiner Expressway The presentation will outline the approved Strategic Plan for the Rehabilitation of the F.G. Gardiner Expressway, extending from Highway 427 to the eastern limit at Logan Avenue. The Strategic Plan includes an assessment of the current condition of the Expressway including the “at-grade” and “elevated” sections, a prioritization of the proposed rehabilitation works, and presents a comparison between the conventional and accelerated approaches for the rehabilitation in terms of project schedule, capital costs and user impact costs associated with the construction of the rehabilitation works.

Aspiring Engineer Scholarship Recipients

PEO East Toronto Chapter is proud to announce this year’s recipients of two Aspiring Engineer Scholarships intended for students entering their first year of an Engineering program.

The two recipients are: Emily Xu, admitted to Civil Engineering at University of Toronto, and Jonah Eisen, admitted to Bachelor of Science in Engineering at Queen’s University.

The recipients have been invited to this year’s AGM, which will take place on January 28th 2014, to be presented with their scholarship.

Annual General Meeting – 2014

The annual general meeting for the year 2013 took place on January 29th, at the Arts & Letters Club. The evening kicked off with introductory remarks by the Chair who also introduced the 2013 Chapter Board Members in attendance.

Candidates of the upcoming PEO election were introduced but they did not address the audience. Present PEO Council members in attendance did however have a chance to address the audience, specifically:

  1. Denis Carlos, P. Eng. – East Central Region Senior Councillor
  2. Roger Jones, P. Eng. – Councillor at Large
  3. Changiz Sadr, P. Eng. – East Central Region Councillor

Robert Li, P. Eng. was recognized for his 5 years of volunteer work for PEO, and John Glover, P. Eng. for his 25+ years. John Bailes, P. Eng. was recognized with a Certificate of Fellowship.

Candidates for the upcoming PEO Election addressed the attendees briefly, followed by a presentation of the Treasurer’s Report for 2013 by Robert Li, and a presentation of the Activity Report for 2013 by Hugo Maureira.

The evening finished off with an informative seminar entitled “Evidence-Based Automobile Fuel Efficiencies” presented by William Vukson.
